Giving Your Teeth a Helping Hand
I speak to many patients who are always keen to get the ‘inside track’ on what else they can do to have great teeth. A few weeks ago, The Mail on Sunday even included a feature looking at the ‘three steps to great teeth’.
If you’re looking to improve the appearance of your smile, there are of course many different options you can consider depending on the results you want to achieve.
However, aside from cosmetic work, there are other things you should be doing every day to help you achieve ‘great’ teeth:
Give plaque the brush off – it sounds simple, but more people than you think skip brushing their teeth before bed. Ideally, you should be brushing twice a day – in the morning and evening.
Start interdental cleaning – flossing or using tepe brushes twice a day is also essential in preventing plaque build-up. It helps remove debris and plaque bacteria from in between the teeth that even toothbrushes will struggle to get to.
Limit your sugars – to really safeguard against decay, it’s no surprise that you should aim to limit the sweet things and avoid acidic foods and drinks which can damage tooth enamel.
It just goes to show that even if you do want cosmetic work, you can also help to make that end result look even better by maintaining good oral hygiene at home.
